Hummingbirds are exciting to watch by their graceful fluttering to their quick retreat. Many people enjoy this beautiful creature of nature. My interpretation of the hummingbird is made from several gourds and the wings are cut from gourd shards. I then apply epoxy clay and carve in the feathers on the wings back and tail. I have him on top of two pieces of driftwood that are strategically placed to distribute the weight of the bird and make it sit flush on a table.
This pieces measures approximately 4 1/2" tall, including the driftwood, and 6" from the beak to the tail.
Each one of my art pieces are one of a kind because each gourd is shaped differently and I might have to place the head, tail or wings angled different. Also the driftwood is unique as no two pieces can look the same. I sign and number each one of my hummingbird art sculptures.
This would make a pretty art piece in your home or to give as a gift to a person who has a bird collection.
