Butterflies have always had a special place in my heart. Many of my art pieces include butterflies. This is handcrafted by cutting the wings out of gourd shards. The are hand drawn on the gourd according to the uniques shape or curve of the gourd. This gives the wings dimension. Veins are then burnt into the wings with a pyrography tool and dyed to create the coloring. The dye used is transparent allowing the natural mottling of the gourd to show through. The body is also handcrafted.
This pieces measures from end to end of the driftwood 7" long. The butterfly is approximately 5" wide at the tips and is about 3 3/4" wide.
Butterfly collectors would love to include this in their collection. Some people identify butterflies with a loved one, and this would make a thoughtful remembrance gift.
