Butterflies have always had a special place in m heart. Many of my art pieces will include butterflies. This butterfly is handcrafted by cutting the wings out of gourd shards. It is hand drawn according to the unique shape of the gourd, giving the wings dimension. Veins are then burnt into the wings with a pyrography tool and dyed to create the coloring. The dye is transparent allowing the natural mottling of the gourd to show through. The body is also handcrafted. Each and every one of my butterfly pieces are one of a kind, as no two wing shapes are identical and each piece of driftwood is unique and selected to compliment the butterfly.
The driftwood measures approximately 6" long. The Butterfly measures approximately 5" from tip to tip, and about 3 1/2" wide
Butterfly collectors would love to include this in their collection. Also, some people identify butterflies with a loved one, and this would make a very thoughtful remembrance gift.
